This practical role is ideal for someone with furniture-making, joinery, cabinet-making or similar workshop experience who takes pride in accurate workmanship, attention to detail and completing every job to a high standard.
About Us
Established in 1982, Custom World designs and manufactures bespoke fitted furniture locally, supported by our own fitting team.
Our ambition is to be the most trusted and reliable fitted furniture company in the South East and a reputable employer. As we grow, we remain committed to the quality, craftsmanship and personal service on which our reputation has been built.

About the job
The opportunity
We are looking for a skilled and dependable Bench Hand to manufacture made-to-measure fitted furniture in our Ferndown factory.
Working from approved designs and job specifications, you will build and prepare furniture carefully, accurately and efficiently. You will ensure that every job is complete, checked and ready for collection by our fitting team.
This is a practical role for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, notices the small details and understands that the quality of the finished installation begins in the workshop.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
Reading and following approved designs, dimensions, job specifications and production information.
Manufacturing furniture units and components accurately and efficiently.
Producing well-finished work that meets Custom World’s required quality standards.
Fitting and testing drawers, hinges, soft-close mechanisms and other moving components.
Checking doors, panels and visible components for the correct colour, finish and condition.
Completing the required checklist for every job.
Ensuring each order contains all required units, doors, handles, hinges, fittings and associated components.
Preparing completed jobs safely and accurately for collection by the fitting team.
Using materials responsibly and minimising avoidable waste, damage and rework.
Keeping your workbench, tools, equipment and the wider factory clean, safe and organised.
Wearing the required uniform, safety footwear and personal protective equipment.
Reporting defects, shortages, specification concerns and safety issues promptly.
Working constructively with factory, design and fitting colleagues.
About you
You will ideally have:
Practical experience in furniture manufacture, joinery, cabinet making, workshop production or a similar environment.
The ability to work accurately from designs, measurements, job sheets or production specifications.
Strong practical skills and close attention to detail.
Pride in producing accurate and well-finished work.
The ability to check completed work systematically and identify defects or missing components.
A reliable approach to attendance, timekeeping and completing work.
An understanding of workshop health and safety.
The ability to work independently while contributing positively to the wider team.
The physical capability to undertake the role safely, with reasonable adjustments where required.
Experience manufacturing fitted bedrooms, wardrobes, home offices or other made-to-measure furniture would be particularly valuable.
Experience with edging, furniture assembly, cabinet hardware, board materials and soft-close components would also be beneficial.
What we offer
The opportunity to work for an established local fitted-furniture business.
A practical role producing genuinely bespoke furniture.
The opportunity to develop your skills and contribute ideas for improving quality and efficiency.
A supportive working environment built around teamwork, respect and pride in our work.
