Join Custom World as a Sales Designer and help customers transform their ideas into beautifully designed, made-to-measure fitted furniture. You will combine creativity, attentive customer service and consultative selling to produce accurate designs and convert qualified appointments into profitable sales.
About Us
Established in 1982, Custom World designs and makes bespoke fitted furniture locally, supported by our own fitting team.
Our ambition is to be the most trusted and reliable fitted furniture company in the South East and a reputable employer, building on that foundation as we grow into Dorset and London.
Everything we do is guided by our six values: Excellence, Ownership, Integrity, Improvement, Teamwork and Respect. They describe the standard we promise customers and the way we expect colleagues to work with one another.
About the job
As our Sales Designer, you will guide customers from their first design conversation through to an accurate, clearly priced proposal.
You will visit customers, understand their space, requirements, style, budget and timescale, and translate these into attractive, practical and commercially viable fitted-furniture designs.
This is a customer-facing role that combines creativity, technical accuracy, customer service and commercial responsibility. Success is measured not simply by sales, but also by the quality of the customer experience, the accuracy of your work and the trust you build.
Key responsibilities:
• Prepare for and attend customer appointments punctually and professionally.
• Listen carefully and ask effective questions to understand each customer’s space, priorities, style, budget and timescale.
• Measure rooms accurately and record dimensions, angles, access considerations and other relevant features.
• Create inspiring and practical designs that make effective use of the available space.
• Produce clear plans and quotations, wherever possible during the appointment or otherwise within two working days.
• Explain our products, finishes, fittings, guarantees and the benefits of locally made, fully bespoke furniture.
• Convert suitable design appointments into profitable sales through helpful, confident and ethical consultative selling.
• Price projects accurately and use discounts responsibly within the approved authority level.
• Maintain complete records of designs, measurements, quotations, follow-up activity and customer decisions.
• Work closely with showroom, production and fitting colleagues to ensure a smooth and accurate handover.
• Respond to customer enquiries and agreed follow-up actions promptly, normally within one working day.
• Support reasonable showroom cover, including agreed weekend working, as required.
About you
We are looking for someone who can combine creativity with commercial awareness and close attention to detail.
You will ideally bring:
• Experience in consultative sales, interior design, fitted furniture, kitchens, bedrooms or another customer-led environment.
• The ability to understand a customer brief and translate it into an attractive, practical and commercially viable design.
• A strong customer-service mindset and the confidence to build trust in customers’ homes and in the showroom.
• Strong attention to detail and the numerical confidence to measure and price accurately.
• Clear communication, good organisation and dependable follow-through.
• Confidence using digital systems and a willingness to learn our design and customer-management tools.
• The ability to work towards individual and team objectives without compromising quality or customer trust.
Experience using CAD or fitted-furniture design software and an understanding of manufacturing or installation considerations would be advantageous.
A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to customer appointments are required.
What we offer
• [Insert salary and commission arrangements.]
• 20 days plus bank holidays and an extra day on your birthday
• Company pension scheme
• The opportunity to represent an established local business with more than 40 years’ experience.
• The chance to contribute to Custom World’s continued development and growth.
• Training in our products, systems and approach to design.
• A working environment built around Excellence, Ownership, Integrity, Improvement, Teamwork and Respect.
